Ornua, the largest exporter of Irish dairy products, today welcomed Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed to its white cheese factory in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The visit marks the beginning of a Ministerial-led Trade Mission to the Gulf States, with a number of State agencies, including Bord Bia.

Under Wisconsin legislation, dating back to the 1950s, retail butter for sale in Wisconsin must bear either a Wisconsin or federal grade mark. This effectively excludes Kerrygold butter being sold in Wisconsin because Kerrygold butter is graded, produced and packaged in Ireland. Ornua, Ireland’s largest exporter of Irish dairy products, is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement to acquire F.J. Need (Foods) Limited, the Cheshire-based cheese ingredients company. Established over 40 years ago, the family run cheese company includes a well-invested cheese cutting, grating and slicing facility, two cheese brands and a distribution fleet. The acquisition is central to Ornua’s strategy of further strengthening its core businesses in Germany, North America and the UK. F.J. Need’s strong competences will also strengthen Ornua’s UK business’s capabilities in the post Brexit environment.

Ornua’s UK-based nutritional ingredients business, Ornua Nutrition Ingredients (ONI), and EasiYo, the homemade, fresh yogurt brand from New Zealand, have entered into a supply partnership. This will see ONI utilise a new, purpose-built, production facility at its headquarters in Leek in the UK, to blend and pack high–quality, Irish dairy powders into the full range of EasiYo natural and flavoured yogurt mixes for the UK and European markets. Aged cheddar produced by Jim O’Brien, of Limerick-based O’Brien’s Artisan Farmhouse Cheese, has won the “2016 Listowel Food Fair National Kerrygold Cheese Competition”, at the 22nd annual Listowel Food Fair awards, in association with Ornua. The award was presented to Jim O’Brien, by Kevin Lane, CEO, Ornua, at Ornua’s headquarters in Dublin on the 21st of December.
