Ornua, Ireland’s largest exporter of dairy products and owner of the Kerrygold brand, has been awarded the Business Working Responsibly Mark by Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI).
The Mark is Ireland’s Economic, Environment, Social and Governance (EESG) standard. It is the standard for sustainability that goes beyond legal compliance by fostering a culture of responsible business through continuous improvement, ongoing accountability, and leadership.
The Business Working Responsibly Mark, audited by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI), is based on the ISO 2600 Standard and is managed by Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI). Following the comprehensive audit process, Ornua has proudly been recertified after first achieving the Mark in 2021.
Conor Galvin, CEO, Ornua, said: “Ornua is pleased to achieve recertification for the Business Working Responsibly Mark from Business in the Community Ireland. As a co-operative, our responsibility extends beyond producing high-quality dairy products – we are firmly focused on minimising our environmental impact while making meaningful contributions to the communities we represent and operate in. The Business Working Responsibly mark reaffirms our ongoing commitment to sustainability and more importantly, recognises the hard work of our teams across the organisation to ensure we deliver on our commitments, operate responsibly and continuously improve.”
Tomás Sercovich, CEO of Business in the Community Ireland, commended Ornua’s achievement: “We are delighted to recertify Ornua with the Business Working Responsibly Mark for a second time. They have clearly embraced the Mark framework as evidenced in their new sustainability strategy, Common Ground. During the Mark’s critical audit process, Ornua’s strong governance and risk management structures were demonstrated, and the improvement over recent years was evident. Congratulations to the Ornua team for their commitment and leadership to the sustainability agenda.”
In 2024 Ornua launched a new Environment, Social and Governance strategy – Common Ground – setting out the business’s sustainability ambition and commitments across the pillars of Planet, People and Products. The full strategy overview can be viewed via: https://www.ornua.com/common-ground/
